It's the first day of summer
Well it’s here, you wouldn’t know it looking at the weather but it is finally here, summer. Yes today is the first day of summer. Those long hot glorious days are officially here. Although in this part of the country, today’s long hot glorious day is cunningly disguised as an autumn one. Add to the weather factor it’s Monday and as a result some of us will be feeling a little, blah, for want of a better term. As a result you may start thinking in the negative. Nothing good comes from thinking in the negative. The more you think negative thoughts the worse you feel, the worse you feel the more you think negative thoughts, and the spiral continues. The result, you have a totally miserable day. All because you failed to look on the bright side. Now, you may be asking what bright side? It is the first day of summer and no matter how bad a reputation British weather has, we do have some gloriously hot days and the fact today isn’t brilliant just means it will get better. In fact, let’s be honest. It’s wet but not cold so it could be worse, but it’s not.
If you want to feel better about things you have to look for the bright side. Look for the positive. I know it’s raining but the positive is there’s better weather to come, maybe not today but sometime. Believe it or not but a good start is to just smile. Psychologists have discovered that even if you don’t feel like smiling, forcing a smile improves our mood. So when you look outside today, smile. Even if you have to force it smile then force a smile. Forcing a smile will not only make you feel better but will make those around you may start to wonder what you’re up to.
